The Mermaids and Yellow Jack - A NorFolktale

In the year 1855 the tears of a child call mermaids from across the sea to battle the fever sailors nicknamed “Yellow Jack.” Lisa Suhay, author of “There Goes a Mermaid! A NorFolktale” teams up with New York Illustrator Joan O‘Brien to create a richly illustrated and historic tale. The author weaves together mermaid magic and history to tell the tale of the Yellow Fever epidemic of 1855. Children also learn a fanciful explanation of why the City of Norfolk, Virginia has both yellow flowers and mermaids all around the city.

Young readers will love searching for the Bon Secours fleur-de-lis symbol which has been hidden in the illustrations!
