The best preparation for surgery is education. It
is essential for prospective bariatric patients to
attend our support group and to talk with former gastric
bypass patients.
Also, potential bariatric surgery candidates are
strongly encouraged to browse Internet websites, such
as www.obesityhelp.com. We recognize the educational
value of these sites, but we also realize that the
testimonies may not necessarily be reflective of your
personal experience or of this program.
The support group is also an important part of the
recovery process. Our support group was founded to
help with some of the issues patients might encounter
as they lose weight. Some of these issues are dietary,
others are social, and some are cosmetic (loose skin,
etc.). These meetings provide a forum for patients
to meet and discuss solutions with others who have
gained insight through personal experience. Studies
show patients who actively participate in a support
group have better outcomes than those who do not.
Our staff attends all meetings and is available to
answer questions.
