Coordinated, Multi-Disciplinary Treatment - Cancer Care At Its Best,
Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System

At Bon Secours, we have developed a discipline to deal with cancer that we call Knowing. Doing. Living. Each aspect addresses specific issues related to the prevention of, treatment for, and recovery from cancer.

Knowing. Doing. Living!

Giving you the resources you need to make informed decisions about your health and treatment options.

The Thoracic Oncology Program

Knowing.
The most powerful weapon against cancer is knowing. This is the reason Bon Secours has developed a comprehensive prevention and early detection program that includes seminars and screenings, a resource center of books and tapes including materials from the American Cancer Society, internet access to key health care sites including our website, lifestyle modification services like smoking cessation, nutritional counseling and holistic medical services.

Doing.
The earlier a person is diagnosed and treated for cancer, the better their chances are of overcoming it. If a person is suspected of having, or has been diagnosed with cancer, doing something about it quickly, methodically and in a coordinated manner is of the utmost importance. That's the reason our programs include multi-disciplinary teams of cancer specialists who collaborate to determine the most efficient and effective treatment for every patient. Each patient is assigned a patient care coordinator to guide them through the entire process and is given a thorough physical exam conducted by the team's medical director to determine a patient's diagnosis. The team is also fully-supported by Bon Secours state-of-theart diagnostic imaging, surgical services and non-surgical interventions like radiation and chemotherapies

Living!
Our program includes post-operative protocols to facilitate a quick recovery so you can get back to living your life. It also includes a variety of services and programs to assist in a full recovery such as support groups and our image recovery services. We have partnered with the American Cancer Society to offer programs such as I Can Cope, an educational program for people facing cancer, and Look Good... Feel Better, a program that teaches female cancer patients techniques to help restore their appearance. Pastoral care and hospice services are also available to our patients.

At Bon Secours, our multi-faceted program of education, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and recovery wasn't developed just to treat cancer. It was created to treat the whole person - mind, body and soul - so you can live your life to the fullest.
