  The Colorectal Program

Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center’s Cancer Program has been specifically designed for patients with colorectal benign and malignant diagnoses. Since these forms of cancers tend to be among the most virulent, we developed our program to give your patients immediate access to a comprehensive continuum of care that will expedite their diagnosis, treatment and post-operative care. The elements of the Colorectal Program include:

A cancer prevention, education and resource center
Your patient will have many questions and concerns. Our resource center has been developed to provide them with a wealth of information and important services that they may need or want.

  • Lifestyle modification services including smoking cessation,
    exercise and nutritional counseling
  • Complimentary holistic medical services including stress management, massage therapy, biofeedback and other mind and body services
  • Image Recovery services that include cosmetic products and
services, skin and hair care, and wigs

Early cancer detection efforts
We believe education and early detection are very important. Education programs such as the Bon Secours' Knowing, Doing, Living! program, community events and seminars, and cancer assessments emphasize lifestyle changes that can reduce the risk of cancer and the importance of screenings and early detection to surviving cancer.

A streamlined assessment process
The faster your patient is diagnosed and treated for cancer, the better their chances of overcoming it. Our program is designed to expedite the entire process while caring for your patient’s every need.

  • A patient care coordinator to guide and help patients through our program
  • A medical director consultation and thorough physical exam to determine your patient’s diagnosis
  • Same-day additional tests when required

Coordinated treatments
Our Colorectal Program features a multi-disciplinary team of cancer specialists who work together to determine the most efficient and effective treatment for your patient. The team includes a:

  • Colorectal surgeon
  • Medical oncologist
  • Radiation oncologist
  • Gastroenterologist
  • Cancer pathologist
  • Radiologist

Postoperative care
We’ve developed postoperative protocols to ensure a quick recovery for your patient. In addition, your patient will be introduced to a variety of services and
programs to assure full recovery.

  • Daily surgeon and care coordinator monitored post-operative recovery
  • Psycho-social assessment during the recovery process
  • Patient discharge is coordinated through the program’s medical director
  • Your patient’s care coordinator will send your patient a letter outlining all available support groups
  • Other services and programs such as our Image Recovery Center will also be explained
  • A patient evaluation to ensure quality and continued improvement of the Colorectal Program
