Although cancer treatments offer hope and the possibility of controlling the disease, one of the most difficult things individuals deal with is the effect of that treatment on their appearance - the temporary and permanent physical changes that may accompany some aspect of the treatment. Many experience hair loss, skin discoloration, and scarring. Others find their appearance has changed dramatically and that they need to reassess their self-image.

Modern medicine now offers more hope to heal you on the inside, now you can receive treatment for the outside. The Image Recovery Center addresses appearance issues with color, clothing, cosmetics, hair replacement, and mastectomy products.

Working in collaboration with your medical providers, our staff will develop an individual appearance management plan to help you adjust to and get through the physical changes facing you. You will learn simple but necessary things such as the importance of scalp care after hair loss, which products will not irritate your skin and how to use them, camouflage make-up, nutrition information, and more.

DePaul's Image Recovery Center is modeled after a center developed by Marianne Kelly, a brain tumor survivor and professional hair designer for more than 30 years. She is certified in clinical cosmetology, image consulting, makeup artistry, camouflage therapy and breast fitting.

The Image Recovery Center, with its professionally trained staff, exists to help you heal on both the inside and the out. Our staff recognizes the importance of relieving concerns related to your appearance so your energies can be devoted to fighting cancer.

• Hair replacement alternatives for complete and partial hair loss. Synthetic, blended, and 100 percent human hair wigs (styled and fitted)

• Camouflage makeup for scars, skin discoloration, and dark circles
• Cosmetic solutions for lash and brow loss
• Lymphedema products
• Therapeutic facials
• Reflexology
• Nail and hand therapy
• Individual and group workshops
• Pre-and post-surgical mastectomy products such as breast forms, bras and swimwear (participating in most major insurance plans)

Some services are covered by insurance plans. Our staff is especially knowledgeable and they will be happy to talk with you about insurance reimbursement.
