Ira David Miller, MD
Medical Director of the Lung and Chest Program
Dr.
Miller brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the
Lung and Chest Program at Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center.
His career has been dedicated to refining and perfecting the
art of thoracic surgery. Dr. Miller’s skill and credentials
have earned him the respect of fellow physicians and surgeons
and made our Lung and Chest Program the region’s leader
in diagnosing, treating and managing all forms of thoracic
tumors.
After earning his undergraduate pre-medical degree, Dr.
Miller earned his medical degree from Albert Einstein College
of Medicine in New York. Upon graduating, he served a surgery
internship at Kings County Hospital Center followed by a medical
residency and surgery fellowship at the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Miller continued to develop his surgical skills while
serving his country as a Commander in the United States Navy
Reserve. He was a staff surgeon and Director of Clinical Research
in the surgery department at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth.
Throughout his career, Dr. Miller continued to hone his skills
by participating in highly-specialized training that has included:
- Non-invasive vascular diagnostic training: carotid venous
and peripheral vascular
- Angioscopy, angioplasty, endovascular laser training
- Basic and advanced laparoscopy training
- Diagnostic and therapeutic thoraoscopy
- Laparoscopic bowel surgery training
- Laparoscopic herniorrhaphy training
- Endovascular stent training
- Stereotactic Breast Biopsy training
Dr.
Miller is board-certified in general surgery by the American
Board of Surgery and has always been willing to share his
passion for thoracic surgery. Dr. Miller has served as an
active teaching staff member at DePaul Medical Center and
as a surgery instructor at Eastern Virginia Medical School.
He is currently an Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery
at EVMS and has earned the school’s prestigious Outstanding
Faculty Teaching Award. Dr. Miller is also an active member
of several professional societies including:
- American College of Surgeons
- Virginia Surgical Society
- Virginia Vascular Society
- Virginia Thoracic Society
- Virginia Medical Society
- American Association for Vascular Surgery
Under Dr. Miller’s leadership, our Lung and Chest
Program’s
team of oncology specialists collaborate to improve the speed
and efficiency of patient care. In addition, he and his team
are supported by the full resources of Bon Secours DePaul Medical
Center, which include state-of-the-art imaging and radiological
systems for diagnosing and treating all forms of cancer.
