            CANCER | The Thoracic Program

Diagnosis and treatment of thoracic tumors can be a complex process, usually requiring multiple visits to multiple specialists. This can often lead to delays between diagnosis and treatment and fragmentation of care, which can ultimately result in poor outcomes. That problem is solved, however, at the Thoracic Program at Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center, where we bring all the specialists and testing your patient may need under one roof to increase the speed with which lung cancer, pleural tumors and mediastinal tumors are diagnosed and treated. Our ability to quickly implement a comprehensive treatment plan is imperative to achieving improved outcomes in care. This program is the only one of its kind in Hampton Roads that coordinates all the services your patients need into a comprehensive package.

Our program provides first-time consults, second opinion consults, or longer term, comprehensive management for each patient. Patients that you refer to the program make only one appointment to see all the doctors and get all the diagnostic tests necessary, usually within the same day. In most cases, treatment can begin within a week of diagnosis. Ongoing communication and collaboration with the primary physician, the multidisciplinary team, or the thoracic surgery team is critical to providing effective and consistent care to your patients.

We offer:

  1. A Coordinated Approach
  2. Comprehensive Evaluations
  3. Specialized Diagnosis
  4. Specialized Treatment
  5. Support Services
  6. Education and Prevention Programs

If your patient has suspected or known lung cancer, pleural tumors or mediastinal tumors, we are ready to help with their physical, emotional and spiritual healing. To refer your patients to the DePaul's Thoracic Program, contact our patient care coordinator at 889-4224.
