In 1824, a group of Catholic women found a new way to address unmet healthcare needs in Paris, France. Long before the catch phrase, "thinking outside the box," the Sisters of Bon Secours were moving beyond the walls of tradition by leaving their familiar cloister to minister to the needs of the sick and dying in their homes. They were called "good help," which in French is bon secours (bon se-COOR).
Today in Hampton Roads, Virginia, our employees, physicians, volunteers, and community board members carry on the mission of the Sisters with technical excellence. We are driven by the conviction that healthcare is more than curing disease, it's caring for the whole person. We know that to heal the body, we must touch the soul.
At Bon Secours we recognize that caring for people is more than just a job; it's a ministry. Because of our ministry, we are also committed to care for those who provide that care for our patients. Our employees enjoy many work/life benefits. In addition to the satisfaction of knowing that we are carrying on a tradition of healing, we offer: competitive pay; pension benefit with matching contributions; health and dental insurance; and educational and development opportunities that include tuition reimbursement, internships, preceptor programs, scholarships, and flexible scheduling as well as extensive staff development programs.
In addition to offering competitive financial rewards, we also understand that recognizing and rewarding outstanding individuals for their efforts is an essential part of carrying out our ministry. These individuals serve as our ministry partners, and we have developed a number of notable ways to honor them.
Our highest honor, the Dedicated Service Award, is one that is recognized throughout the entire Bon Secours Health System and brings a cash reward, a trip to our national headquarters, and other organizational-wide recognitions.
The Gemstone Award, our local Hampton Roads system recognition program, honors an individual or a team for developing creative, high quality, and resourceful ways of providing good help to those in need. Recipients receive an all-expense paid trip to the Bahamas.
Success Share is an all-employee incentive program that provides cash bonuses to our local system employees when we meet our community commitment, our patient satisfaction, and financial goals.
Additionally, each Bon Secours facility participates in the Good Help Commitment and "on the spot" service recognition programs, as well as annual Recognition Days and service awards ceremonies that provide gifts for employees with ten or more years of service.
