Originally located in Newport News east end, the hospital that became Mary Immaculate Hospital was built at the turn of the century by Dr. Joseph Buxton. His son, Dr. Russell Buxton, turned the hospital over to the Bernardine Sisters, Third Order of St. Francis. They renamed the facility Mary Immaculate Hospital, and in the 1970s, relocated the hospital to its present location in the Denbigh area of Newport News. Mary Immaculate Hospital has been a part of the Bon Secours Health System since 1996.
