The Bon Secours Lung Care Team and Chest Cancer is designed to provide state-of-the-art care to patients with diseases of the thoracic region.
Our team of experts has specifically designed programs for patients with cancerous and non-cancerous diagnoses involving the lungs, esophagus, mediastinum, pleura, chest wall, ribs, thymus, trachea and diaphragm.
Our patient-centered approach to diagnosing and treating diseases and conditions of the lungs and chest means we can provide a broad range of diagnostic services and treatment options, including: spiral CT scan, spirometry (lung capacity) evaluation, bronchoscopy, PET scanning, chest radiography, endoscopy and thoracic surgery.
We believe early detection is very important. Our education programs emphasize lifestyle changes as well as the importance of screening, both of which can reduce the risk of cancer.
Our Approach
The specialized experts of our patient care team work together to determine the most efficient and effective treatments for you. Our team includes: thoracic surgeons, radiation oncologists, cancer pathologists, medical oncologists, pulmonologists and radiologists. In addition, our patient care coordinator works with the other members of our care team to oversee each patient’s diagnosis and treatment.
The elements of the Lung Care Team and Chest Center include cancer prevention, cancer education and cancer resource center where cancer patients may address their many questions and concerns. Our resource center has been developed to provide a wealth of information and important cancer services that our patients may need or want. Lifestyle modification services including smoking cessation and nutritional counseling.
Treatment and Education
Our education programs, community events and seminars, and cancer assessments emphasize lifestyle changes that can reduce risk related to many diseases that affect the lungs and chest; including cancer. Early detection, through screenings and annual physicals, can help boost your ability to survive an otherwise devastating disease. We offer:
- Lifestyle modification services, including smoking cessation, exercise and nutritional counseling
- Complementary treatment options, including stress management, massage therapy and biofeedback
- Image recovery services, including cosmetic services and products, skin and hair care, and wigs
- Educational community events and seminars
- Cancer screenings and assessments
Post-operative Care
With daily visits while you are in the hospital, our patient care coordinator continues to provide communication between you and the members of your care team. Our program’s medical director will coordinate your discharge from the hospital. After you go home from the hospital, our patient care coordinator will provide you with information about support groups. You will also be given information about and access to our Image Recovery Center.
Your comfort is important to us, whether you are visiting us for the first time or you will need ongoing care. After your doctor recommends testing for lung and chest diseases, we want to help you move through the process as smoothly and comfortably as possible. From the time of your first visit, our patient care coordinator will help guide you through your diagnosis and treatment. We want you to ask questions and be an active participant in your health care. We will do our best to make sure you understand what is happening, every step of the way.
