Dr. Obayuwana Joins the Bon Secours Team

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (April 17, 2006) Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System, Inc., announced today the association of Alphonsus Obayuwana, MD, a board certified obstetrician and gynecologist.  Dr. Obayuwana comes to Bon Secours from private practice to establish Portsmouth OB/GYN.  His new office is located at 301 Goode Way, in downtown Portsmouth.  

Dr. Obayuwana graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry from High Point University in North Carolina.  He did graduate work in cell and molecular biology at the Medical College of Georgia, after which he studied medicine and biochemistry at Howard University College of Medicine.  Following his residency in OB/GYN at Harbor Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland, he practiced medicine in Washington DC area for 19 years.  He is a Diplomate of the United States National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.   Dr. Obayuwana enjoys playing soccer, walking and listening to music.  He and his wife, a licensed psychologist, live in the Harbour View section of Suffolk with their two sons.

Dr. Obayuwana, who has previously held clinical faculty positions at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the University of Maryland College of Medicine, is currently on faculty at Eastern Virginia Medical School as an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Department of Family Medicine.  He is the author of several scientific publications in the field of OB/GYN and Behavioral Sciences and has received numerous awards in recognition for his professional excellence, scientific contributions and service to others.

Portsmouth OB/GYN provides obstetrical care and offers women ongoing medical management of conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol, and wellness screenings.
