Portsmouth, Va. (October 25, 2007) As a demonstration of their commitment to high quality of patient care, Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center announced today the Imaging Department was recently awarded a three-year accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) by the American College of Radiology (ACR). 

The award was the result of a recent survey by the ACR where image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs were evaluated. Surveyors reported findings to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides a comprehensive report.

The ACR, headquartered in Reston, VA, awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of its practice. Board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field conduct evaluations.  The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs for focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology as well as the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
