LEADING SURGEON JOINS BON SECOURS HEART INSTITUTE STAFF
(Portsmouth, Va– July 17, 2006) – Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System is pleased to announce the addition of John Henry Artrip, M.D., to the cardiac surgery team of the Bon Secours Heart Institute.
“I am delighted to welcome Dr. Artrip to our team,” said Joseph S. Auteri, M.D, medical director of the Bon Secours Heart Institute. “His expertise will be indispensable as we continue to establish the Bon Secours Heart Institute as a world-class cardiac care facility.”
Dr. Artrip received his bachelor’s degree from Amherst College, Amherst, Mass., and his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit.
Most recently, Dr. Artrip was a clinical fellow, congenital heart surgery at Denver Children’s Hospital. Prior to that, he worked at NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Center as a clinical fellow in heart transplantation and ventricular assist devices, as well as cardiothoracic surgery, and electrophysiology and pacing.
Dr. Artrip also worked in New York at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital as clinical fellow, thoracic surgery. He was chief resident in general surgery at Bellevue Hospital/Manhattan V.A. Hospital, N.Y., and categorical general surgery resident at New York University in the department of surgery.
He has co-authored numerous original publications, review articles and book chapters, and is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Medical Association, as well as an associate member of American College of Surgeons.
Bon Secours Heart Institute, affiliated with Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons, opened in November 2005 at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center. Columbia University Medical Center at The New York Presbyterian Hospital was ranked eighth among the nation’s top heart programs in the 2005 U.S. News & World Report survey of best hospitals.
