Bon Secours Hampton Roads Announces 2007 Board of Directors
Suffolk, Va. (January 24, 2007) – Three new members-at-large have been appointed to the Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System (BSHR) Board of Directors for 2007. They are: Michael S. LaRock, Sister Anne Lutz, C.B.S., and Bennie L. Marshall, RN, Ed.D.
LaRock, vice president of finance and CFO of SYSCO Food Services of Hampton Roads, Inc., earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Old Dominion University. A certified public accountant, LaRock is a member of Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and he serves on several community boards. Prior to SYSCO, LaRock was secretary and treasurer of Doughtie’s Foods, Inc., and held several positions at Price Waterhouse LLP, Norfolk, Va.
Sr. Anne, a health care administrator with more than 30 years of experience in acute and geriatric care, serves as lead senior vice president of sponsorship for Bon Secours Health System, Inc. Sr. Anne received her nursing certification from the Bon Secours School of Nursing. She later obtained a bachelor of arts degree in administration from the University of Detroit
and a gerontology certificate from St. Louis University. Sr. Anne was a licensed nursing home
administrator in Pennsylvania. She currently serves on the boards of Bon Secours-Michigan and Bon Secours Assurance Company Ltd. She is provincial treasurer for the Sisters of Bon Secours in the United States.
Marshall, a professor and department head of Norfolk State University’s department of nursing, has more than 40 years experience as a nurse, educator and manager. She received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University, a master’s degree from Hampton University, and a doctor of education degree from The College of William and Mary. Marshall was selected as a 2002-2005 Robert Wood
Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow, and she received a gubernatorial appointment to the Virginia
Board of Health.
Wayne K. Sawyer, president and chief executive officer of Bennett’s Creek Wholesale Nursery, Inc., in Suffolk, continues to serve as chair of the Board of Directors. Other board members are: Alfred E. Abiouness, business leader in Norfolk; Edward Boyer, an executive with Bon Secours Health System; Rise Faith E. Dajao, M.D., a primary care physician with First Care P.C. in Chesapeake; Richard A. Hanson, CEO of BSHR; Linwood E. Howard, financial industry executive in Norfolk; William H. Kline, real estate executive in Portsmouth; Robert W. Knapp, M.D., retired surgeon and former member of the Bon Secours Health System Board of Directors; Margaret U. Moser, financial executive in Portsmouth; Mary Jane Moser, community representative from Virginia Beach; R. B. Seal, M.D., retired pathologist; Sister Rosemary Smith, senior vice president of sponsorship with BSHR; Deborah K. Stearns, real estate executive in Norfolk and Virginia Beach; James A. Stewart, M.D., internist with Internists of Churchland, Ltd.; and Sister Rita D. Thomas, CBS, president of the BSHR Board of Directors.
