PORTSMOUTH PARTNERSHIP BOARD HONORS
BOYNTON-SMITH WITH COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD
Portsmouth, Va. (June 3, 2006) – Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System is pleased to congratulate Jennifer Boynton-Smith on her receipt of the 2006 Outstanding Lefcoe Leadership Award for Dedication and Commitment to Community Service. The Portsmouth Partnership, a volunteer organization that supports the city of Portsmouth by promoting economic growth, presented the award.
Boynton-Smith, executive director of the Cardiac & Vascular Service Line and the Health Awareness & Wellness Program for Bon Secours Hampton Roads, has been with Bon Secours and Maryview Medical Center since 1979. She was instrumental in bringing open-heart surgery services to Western Hampton Roads in partnership with Columbia University and New York-Presbyterian Hospital through the Bon Secours Heart Institute, which opened last November.
A Portsmouth resident, Boynton-Smith is active in the community. She is currently a commissioner and vice chair of the Portsmouth Planning Commission, president of the Girls Inc/Center for Youth Board, a board member of the Lefcoe Alumni Association, and past chair and board member of the South Hampton Roads American Heart Association Board.
Boynton-Smith holds a master’s degree in organizational management and received her bachelor’s degree in business administration. She received the American Heart Association’s 2005 Grinnan Memorial Research Award for outstanding volunteer efforts to improve cardiovascular health in Hampton Roads.
