BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE CENTER AT BON SECOURS DEPAUL HAS A NEW
MEDICAL DIRECTOR
NORFOLK, VA (February 8, 2006) - February 2, 2006 marked the sixth anniversary of the Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center's Geriatric Psychiatric Day Treatment Program. . Recently a new medical director was named. Lajuana Collins-Morgan, MD, has succeeded Leigh Baltuch, MD, who retired in December. Dr. Collins-Morgan attended Eastern Virginia Medical School and completed her residency training in Psychiatry at EVMS as well. She also is in private practice with Hampton Roads Behavioral Health in their Norfolk and Hampton offices.
Bon Secours DePaul's Geriatric Psychiatric Day Treatment Program was founded six years ago to address an unmet need in the community - depression among seniors. Research indicated that seniors were twice as likely to suffer clinical depression as younger Americans, and twice as likely to attempt suicide if undiagnosed. Since 2000, the program has nearly doubled the number of patients served.
Three of the original staff members remain with the program today: Carol Vogel LCSW, Carol Schultz RN, and the program director Rick Jackson.
