Free Colon Cancer Lectures and Screenings Offered by Bon Secours
Norfolk, Va. (February 15, 2006) – Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States and is expected to cause more than 57,000 deaths during 2006. The death rate from colorectal cancer has been dropping for the past 15 years and there are now about 1 million survivors of colorectal cancer in the United States. Colon cancer is one of the most curable and preventable types of cancer. With early detection, a person can improve his/her odds of survival and in some cases, certain screening tools can actually prevent colon cancer from occurring.
That is why Bon Secours Hampton Roads is hosting free educational colon health seminars and screenings. In honor of Colon Cancer Awareness month in March, Bon Secours Hampton Roads is once again offering the community free colon health packages during March. They include information on the importance of regular screenings, early detection, diet, exercise and more, as well as a free hemoccult screening test. The free colon health packages can be obtained by calling (757) 889-CARE.
The three lectures are as follow:
- March 15, 6:00 p.m., Bon Secours Health Center at Harbour View, featuring Thomas J. Duntemann, M.D., Ray T. Ramirez, M.D., and James J. Stark, M.D.;
- March 27, 7:00 p.m., Mary Immaculate Hospital Health Resource Center;
- March 28, 6:00 p.m., Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center, featuring Steven M. Dandalides, MD
