Bon Secours Declared Fit Friendly
Suffolk, Va. (September 25, 2007) The American Heart Association recently recognized Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System as a Start! Fit Friendly Company. Bon Secours Hampton Roads is the recipient of a gold award, meaning that Bon Secours it is a company that creates a culture of physical activity and healthy eating options in the workplace.
Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System is among of only a four organizations in Southeastern Virginia to be recognized as a Start! Fit Friendly Company. This award names Bon Secours as a true champion in the health of its employees.
To receive the Start! Fit Friendly Company Gold Award, Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System had to meet an array of standards. Criteria for the award included offering employees physical activity support, increasing healthy eating options at work, promoting a wellness culture, and implementing several activities that improve physical activity levels, nutrition and culture among employees.

The Start! initiative addresses the number one killer in the United States – cardiovascular disease. By encouraging physical activity, nutrition and general wellness in the workplace, the American Heart Association hopes Americans will live longer, healthier lives.
