BON SECOURS NURSE MANAGER RECEIVES GLOWING LAMP AWARD

Portsmouth Va. (August 6, 2007) – Marsha W. Jones, RN, BSN, FCN, nurse manager for Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center, was recently presented with the Glowing Lamp Award by Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc., a national sorority of registered, professional nurses’ and nursing students. Jones was recognized at an awards banquet held in May at the Murray Conference Center in Norfolk hosted by the local Chi Eta Phi Sorority. Proceeds from this event benefited the organization’s scholarship fund.

The award is given to nurses who have made outstanding contributions in the delivery of health care in their community.  Jones is currently the co-chair of the code blue committee, and oversees the rapid response team. In March, she completed the parish nurse course sponsored by Bon Secours and became a certified faith community nurse. She is currently active in her church’s health ministry.
Previously, Jones worked as a staff nurse in telemetry, CICU, and the cardiac catheterization lab for Bon Secours Heart Institute. She also has been a nursing supervisor and most recently the clinical coordinator of the float pool nurses. Prior to this, Jones worked in several positions at Sentara including critical care, telemetry, and home health nurse. She also was an office manager for a local HMO healthcare center. Jones received her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Hampton University.

Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc., consists of over 8,000 registered nurses and nursing students in graduate and undergraduate chapters throughout the United States, District of Columbia, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and Liberia West Africa. Guided by the motto "Service for Humanity", the Sorority has programs focusing on health promotion/disease prevention, leadership development, mentoring, recruitment and retention and scholarships.
