(Portsmouth, Va. – September 13, 2006) – Toni Higgins, R.N., clinical educator for Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center, was recently selected as the medical center’s Overall Clinical Excellence Awardee for 2006.

A clinical nurse educator with more than 22 years experience as a practicing nurse, Higgins was recognized for her knowledge, compassion, and dedication to delivering high quality medical care. 

As clinical educator, she is responsible for emergency department education and staffing, and she says she enjoys the balance between working in the clinical setting and devoting time to education at the unit level.

Higgins received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Christopher Newport University, Newport News, Va., and her nursing diploma from Riverside School of Practical Nursing, also in Newport News.  She received her associate of applied science degree from Thomas Nelson Community College, Hampton, Va. Higgins has completed several graduate level courses at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Va., and currently is enrolled in a clinical nurse specialist program.
