Portsmouth, VA  (February 7, 2006) Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Joy Dalesandro, MD, with Commonwealth Surgical Associates, as medical director and the establishment of the Lung and Chest Program at Maryview.  As leader of a team of cancer specialists, she is charged with establishing the Lung and Chest Program to become the area’s premier chest cancer program.  The program focuses on providing an expedited diagnosis and coordinated care to individuals with suspicious lung or chest lesions.  

A board certified, fellowship-trained, cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Dalesandro brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program.  Dalesandro completed her bachelors in science in Biology with minors in Latin and Chemistry at Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, CA.  After graduating from the University of California, Davis School of Medicine, she completed a general surgical residency program at U.C. Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, CA.  Dalesandro completed her cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Fairview-University Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN.   Dalesandro has been a member of the Portsmouth medical community for more than three years.

Dr. Dalesandro is board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery.  She is recipient of numerous awards, including the Coleman Connolly Award in Thoracic Surgery from the University of Minnesota. She is a member of the Association of Women in Thoracic Surgery, General Thoracic Surgery Club and the Association of Women Surgeons.
