Millie Lancaster Women's Center Opens
at Harbour View

Philanthropist Makes Donation of More Than $350,000 to Inspire Women to Make Healthy Choices

Suffolk, Va.  (April 12, 2006) Area women now have access to expanded health resources at the Bon Secours Health Center at Harbour View, located in Northern Suffolk. Thanks to the generous support of Millie Lancaster, a long-time Suffolk resident, the 4,100 sq. ft. addition to Bon Secours Health Center at Harbour View opened in late March.

New services of the Millie Lancaster Women's Center include a health information library, massage therapy, and various breast biopsy techniques, including stereotactic and needle localization. The center's location will continue to provide easy access to EKGs, vascular studies, radiology and laboratory testing. These capabilities complement the existing mammography, bone densitometry and breast ultrasound services.         Patients who need additional diagnostic testing will continue to have access to a breast health coordinator who can help them understand their options for additional testing, surgery, medical treatments, and follow-up care. The Millie Lancaster Women’s Center is dedicated to providing resources and information to help women make confident choices about their personal health care.

Bon Secours Health Center at Harbour View opened in June 1999 in response to community need for health care in the growing Suffolk market. Bon Secours Health Center at Harbour View is a “ambulatory destination point” and houses comprehensive outpatient services to include surgical services, imaging service, medical office space for physicians as well as medical programs.  As consumers demand more convenient high quality access to services, Harbour View has responded by bringing together the latest technology for women’s imaging with digital mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, and a new ultrasound unit which offers 3D scanning capabilities and bone densitometry all in one specifically designed area.

Millie Lancaster lived in Portsmouth and moved to Nansemond County in the mid ‘60s. She and her late husband Arthur “Junie” Lancaster started the historic Coleman Nursery’s Winter Wonderland in Portsmouth, now located in downtown Portsmouth, and later established Lancaster Farms and Bennett’s Creek Wholesale Nursery in Suffolk.  Millie and Junie Lancaster have always been tremendous givers in the community and generous philanthropists. In the mid 1990’s, she and Junie donated their extensive toy and train collection to the Portsmouth Children’s Museum for many generations of children to enjoy. In addition, they were the major donors to the Bon Secours Nursing Care Center in Suffolk where the Lancaster Spiritual and Educational Center is named after them.  Millie is currently a resident at Province Place of Maryview, an assisted living residence in Portsmouth, and was recently selected by the Spirit of Women network as their Ageless Beauty in the Winter 2005 issue of Spirit Magazine.
