Portsmouth, Va. (May 10, 2006) – Lorene D. Ligouri, M.D., a board certified OB/GYN, has joined the medical practice of Portsmouth OB/GYN, a practice associated with Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System, Inc.   With more than 25 years experience in the medicine, she most recently practiced at the Archbold Medical Center of Grady General Hospital in Georgia.

Prior to her most recent position, Dr. Ligouri worked in New York as medical director for Brooklyn Women’s Services, and network director of women’s health services for Lutheran Medical Center, as well as at Lincoln Hospital, and the Union Health Center.  She was a physician consultant providing peer review for Island Peer Review Organization, Inc. (IPRO), and separately for Med Review, both in New York.

For 15 years, Dr. Ligouri was medical director and founding partner of Amber Medical Services for Women in Brooklyn, N.Y.  In that role, she established a health care facility that provided comprehensive health services for more than 9,000 women.

Dr. Ligouri received her bachelor’s degree in medical technology from New York University, and her medical degree from Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. She performed her internship and residency at Staten Island University Hospital, and she was named chief resident in her final year of residency at Beth Israel Medical Center.  Later, she earned her M.B.A. from the University of South Florida.
