PALLIATIVE CARE MANAGER JOINS MARY IMMACULATE HOSPITAL
Newport News, VA (December 9, 2005) – Susan Kaye Moore, FNP has joined Mary Immaculate Hospital and will serve as a nurse practitioner for Palliative Care.
“Palliative care provides a holistic approach to helping patients and their families understand why someone is ill, what that means and what to expect,” said Patricia Robertson, executive vice president and administrator of Mary Immaculate Hospital. “In keeping with our mission to relieve suffering, Mary Immaculate has developed a palliative care initiative to improve quality of life for patients with advanced illnesses.”
In her role as palliative care nurse practitioner, Moore will provide initial and ongoing clinical assessment for patients with advanced and/or progressive medical conditions who are referred for palliative care consultation. She will work closely with the attending and/or consulting physicians to provide and facilitate emotional, spiritual, and bereavement support, and coordination of care until discharge or death of patients.
Moore graduated summa cum laude with her masters in nursing from the Family and Community Nurse Practitioner Program at Husson College’s in Bangor Maine. She earned her bachelors of nursing at the University of Southern Maine in Portland also summa cum laude and her licensed practical nursing degree from Eastern Maine Technical College.
Prior to joining Mary Immaculate Hospital, Moore was a hospitalist at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the Maine Nurse Practitioner Association and adjunct faculty for Husson College.
