Bon Secours Maryview Foundation Announces New Board Members
Portsmouth, Va. (March 18, 2008) – Bon Secours Maryview Foundation announces the appointment of five new members to the Board of Directors for 2008. Joining the board are Dan E. Griffin, Sr., H. Alexander “Alex” Johnson, Janet I. Kovalcik, Mark D. Smith and John “Jack” L. Tynch III. |

Griffin, president of Dan E. Griffin, Architect, AIA, PC in Portsmouth, VA, is a graduate of Churchland High School. Registered as an architect in Virginia for 39 years, he has extensive experience in property appraisal, design and construction. A member of the Foundation of Real Estate Appraisers (FREA) and the American Institute of Architects (A.I.A), Griffin is chairperson of the Portsmouth Board of Building Code Appeals. He has served on many boards over the years, including the Portsmouth Board of Building Code Appeals, the Center for Youth of Southwest Hampton Roads, Ports Events and the Architectural Review for Olde Town and Port Norfolk. |

Johnson is a partner with the law firm of Cooper, Sprong & Davis, PC in Portsmouth, VA. He holds a doctorate degree from the University of Virginia and has nearly 25 years of experience in the legal profession. He is a member of the Hampton Roads Estate Planning Council, the Virginia Bar Association and the Virginia Horse Shows Association. An active participant in his community, Johnson is a member of the Churchland Kiwanis Club, Norfolk Yacht and Country Club and the board of Portsmouth Museums. |

Kovalcik is business manager for Paul J. Kovalcik, MD Medical Practice in Chesapeake, VA. A member of the Chesapeake Medical Society Alliance, she has served as an AMA Alliance Foundation representative for the last four years. Kovalcik was previously a member of the Portsmouth Academy of Medicine Alliance Board. She also was active in the Elizabeth River Garden Club. |

Smith is the senior vice president of BB&T for the financial institution’s Portsmouth, VA location. Holding a bachelor’s degree from James Madison University, his career spans 27 years. Smith serves on the board of Friends of the Portsmouth Juvenile Courts. In addition, he is a member of the board of the Kiwanis Club of Chesapeake. A resident of Norfolk, his personal interests include cycling, tennis and soccer. |

Tynch is vice president senior product manager for International Global Markets with the Bank of America in Norfolk, VA. He has a bachelor’s degree from Longwood University. A member of the Project Management Institute (PMI), Tynch is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and is certified in Six Sigma. In addition, he is a member of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce. Tynch has served on the boards of the Lefcoe Alumni Association and the Lefcoe Leadership Development Foundation. He is also a member of Parkview Civic League. |
