Suffolk, Va. (July 25, 2007) – Ms. Gwendolyn Owens, a certified nursing assistant at Bon Secours Maryview Nursing Care Center, was awarded a $1,500.00 scholarship from the Commonwealth Long Term Care Foundation’s Regirer Nurse Scholarship Program.  The monetary award will help advance her nursing education to the level of Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).  She is one of thirty-eight recipients statewide to receive a scholarship this year.  Candidates competed an extensive entry form and were personally interview by a member of the Virginia Health Care Association’s (VHCA) Nurse Scholarship Committee in order to be considered for the award.

The VHCA, which represents approximately 90% of the long-term care facilities in Virginia, presents the scholarship awards annually to dedicated long-term health care nurses across Virginia.  The Regirer Nurse Scholarship Program was designed to promote and support quality of care and to enhance the educational level of nurses currently working on Virginian’s long term care facilities as we as augment the nurse workforce in the Commonwealth.
