NEW CHIEF NURSE EXECUTIVE AT MARY IMMACULATE HOSPITAL

Newport News, Va. – (April 13, 2006) Mary Immaculate Hospital, has named JoHannah (Jorie) Monk, RN as vice president of patient care services, chief nurse executive.

Monk joins Mary Immaculate Hospital with over 30 years of clinical expertise.  The position of chief nurse executive is not new to Monk.  She has had experience in this same role at various other hospitals throughout her career.  She has also worked at the bedside, been a clinical consultant, administrator and chief operating officer in a variety of healthcare settings.  Most recently, she served as director of the Quality Services Product Line at Wadley Regional Medical Center, a 407-bed, not for profit, acute care hospital in Texarkana, TX.

“Jorie comes to us with a wide variety of knowledge and experience in health care,” said Patricia Roberson, executive vice president and administrator for Mary Immaculate Hospital. “We are pleased to welcome her as clinical leader of our team of excellent nurses.”

“I was attracted to Mary Immaculate Hospital because of the staff and their obvious dedication to the patient experience,” said Monk.  “I’m thrilled to be part of an organization where the mission is to provide every person, every time with the highest quality nursing care, compassion, and respect.”

Monk is responsible for all patient care and nursing throughout the hospital.  She will also provide leadership to other non-nursing areas such as the laboratory and nutrition services.

Monk received both her bachelor’s degree in nursing and her master’s in health care administration from Strassford University in England.  She earned her nursing diploma from the Orange Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Florida.

Monk is a recipient of the 1990 North Carolina “Great 100 Nursing Excellence Award;” the “S. Douglas Smith Quorum of Excellence Award” given by the Carolinas Hospital System in 1996; a SCONE Representative to the National Task Force on Patient Safety; Member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives, American Association of Critical Care Nurses, American Society of Healthcare Risk Managers, National Healthcare Quality Association, and South Carolina Association of Nurse Executives.
