New Chief Nurse Executive At Maryview Medical Center

Portsmouth, Va. (July 25, 2007) – Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center has named Thomas Sweeney, RN, MBA, FACHE, as chief nurse executive.

Sweeney comes to Bon Secours Maryview from Union Hospital in Elkton, Md., where he served as senior vice president and chief clinical operations officer from 2001 to 2006. Prior to this, he was vice president of patient care services for Community Memorial Healthcenter in South Hill, Va., from 1992 to 2001. He also served as assistant vice president of nursing for Altoona Hospital in Pennsylvania and director of critical care for the Medical Center of Central Georgia

Sweeney started his 30-year health care career as an orderly and progressed through the ranks as a Respiratory Technician and progressed through the ranks as a staff nurse, assistant nurse manager, nurse manager and senior nurse manager. He has a bachelor’s degree in healthcare management from the College of Mount St. Joseph in Ohio, as well as a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Old Dominion University. He earned a master’s of business administration degree from Xavier University in Ohio.
