The Friends of Bon Secours Maryview announce Scholarship Recipients
| The Friends of Maryview through Bon Secours Maryview Foundation recently announced the awarding of $6,000 in scholarships to support three local students for the 2007 – 2008 academic year. Recipients of this scholarship must have a parent or guardian who is a part-time or full-time employee of Bon Secours Maryview. Selection was based on academic achievement, community references, and an essay written by the applicant explaining his/her desire for obtaining an advanced academic degree.
The following scholarships have been awarded:
$2,000 to Eric Horgan, son of Mark Horgan, of the Bon Secours Maryview Pharmacy Department and graduate of Southampton High School. Eric has displayed drive and determination, balancing a rigorous schedule by volunteering with the YMCA swim program, and graduating as the Valedictorian of his class. His past accomplishments include membership in the National Honor Society, recognition from The Virginian-Pilot Scholastic Achievement Scholarship Program and has continual placement on the Principal’s List for academic achievement. Eric will be attending the College of William and Mary.
$2,000 to Kerry Vadnais graduate of Peninsula Catholic High School and daughter of Karen Vadnais of the Bon Secours Maryview CVT-ICU. Focus and discipline are two of the leadership strengths that Kerry has learned while finishing high school. Overcoming barriers in her personal life, Kerry has maintained a 3.8 GPA in her Honors study curriculum as well as balancing her volunteer work with the Camp Chrysler Summer Art, Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center and Portsmouth Catholic Elementary School. Kerry will be attending James Madison University to obtain her degree in nursing.
$2,000 to Michael Little, graduate of I.C. Norton High School and son of Charlyne Lane with Bon Secours Maryview Environmental Services Department. While attending the prestigious Governor’s School for the Arts, Michael kept up his musical and performance skills and maintained an impressive GPA in all of his classes. Michael was also captain of the award winning “Versatile 100” Greyhound Marching Band and the I.C. Norcom Concert Band. He was accepted to the Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA and plans to major in music education.
