STONE APPOINTED AS VICE CHAIR TO 2006 VIRGINIA HOSPAC CAMPAIGN
Suffolk, VA (March 31, 2005) -The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association (VHHA) has appointed John T. Stone, vice president of Advocacy, Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System & Bon Secours Health System (Virginia), as a vice chair statewide for the 2006 Virginia HosPAC campaign. HosPAC is the political action arm of VHHA and focuses on raising private contributions from hospital executives and board members to support candidates for political office.
The overall HosPAC campaign is under the leadership of VHHA vice chairman and HosPAC chairman, John Fitzgerald, CEO of Inova Fair Oaks Hospital. Stone will work in collaboration with two other vice chairs, Mark Lawrence of Carilion Health System and Don Harris of Inova Health System.
“The members of VHHA are committed to providing high quality health care at reasonable costs and improving the overall health care status of our communities,” said Stone. “It is my honor and my privilege to serve as a vice chairman for this important advocacy effort.”
Stone came to Bon Secours in 1982 to serve as the vice president of Planning and Marketing for Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center. He was later promoted to vice president of Fund Development and Advocacy for Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System and since 2000, has actively served in Bon Secours Health System (Virginia) as vice president of Advocacy.
A graduate of the University of South Carolina with a BA in political science, Stone attended Georgetown University Law Center from 1966-1967. In 1967, he joined the Election Unit at CBS News in New York City and later became a reporter / producer for WTVJ, in Miami, Florida. Stone began his health care career as the director for Public Information and Marketing at Charlotte Memorial Hospital in Charlotte, NC (now Carolinas Medical Center).
Stone is an active member of several professional associations including: the HosPAC Board of Directors and the Virginia Society of Professional Lobbyists, where he is currently secretary. He was previously an active member in the Society for Hospital Public Relations and Marketing, and the Society for Hospital Philanthropy. In addition, he is or has been active in many community organizations such as: The American Cancer Society, Churchland Rotary Club, United Way, Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, Future of Hampton Roads, Portsmouth Partnership, Child and Family Services, Portsmouth/Churchland YMCA, Railroad Museum of Virginia, the 2006 Portsmouth Notables Committee, and has been an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Chesapeake since 1983.
Stone lives in the Western Branch section of Chesapeake with his wife Tunkie. He is the father of two daughters and the proud grandfather of a grandson and granddaughter.
