Bon Secours Hampton Roads Promotes Thompson to
ATC Coordinator for Sports Medicine

Suffolk, Va. (June 13, 2008) – Bon Secours Hampton Roads is pleased to announce the promotion of Kristin Thompson, MEd, ATC, LAT, to ATC (Certified Athletic Trainer) Coordinator for Bon Secours Hampton Roads Sports Medicine program. As ATC Coordinator, Thompson will oversee all aspects of our ATC staff for the Bon Secours Hampton Roads system and work closely with the Physical Rehabilitation Departments.
Thompson holds a Masters of Education in Kinesiology from the University of Texas. She received her ATC certification in 2004 and is a member of the National Athletic Training Association.
Athletic trainers are allied health care professionals who work with various populations of people to prevent and evaluate injuries, as well as to rehabilitate after an injury. Part of a sports medicine team, athletic trainers assist with patient care in physical therapy clinics and lead sports performance programs based out of physical therapy clinics. They also work with local high schools athletes to prevent injuries, provide emergency and first aid care, evaluate injuries on site and rehabilitate until the injured athlete can return to play.
Bon Secours Hampton Roads currently provides ATC services for Portsmouth, Suffolk, Poquoson, and York County High schools. We also provide ATCs to the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, Beach FC Soccer club, the Piranha's semi professional team in Virginia Beach. |
