(February 15, 2006) Norfolk, VA -- “For the second consecutive year, the Successful Aging Board of Directors will embark on a labor of love,” said Steve Zollos, board director and director of the Bon Secours Hampton Roads Senior Health program.
Board members and a cadre of volunteers are launching an ambitious project December through March of 2006. The goal of the Ramp It Up project is to build ramps for a seniors in Hampton Roads who can’t or have severe difficulty accessing their homes.
Successful Aging Form Board members select ramp recipients based on age and need. The average ramp costs about $2,000 to build.
Ramp construction begins February 23. Teams of volunteers representing local businesses and community-based organizations will build ramps in Norfolk, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Hampton, Williamsburg and Portsmouth.
