ANNUAL WALK TO REMEMBER BABIES
SET FOR OCTOBER 14
AT MARY IMMACULATE HOSPITAL
(Newport News, Va. – October 2, 2006) – The death of an infant is tragic, but the compassionate support of others can help families through the bereavement process. That’s why Mary Immaculate Hospital holds an Annual Walk to Remember babies who have died, which takes place this year at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, at the Mary Immaculate Hospital Exercise Trail.
The Walk to Remember, which has been held for many years, is sponsored by SHARE, a support group that helps families who have experienced perinatal loss. The event is open to anyone, but especially for families who have lost a baby. Participants will walk silently in memory of the babies, and then hold a memorial prayer service that will include the planting of a crepe myrtle tree and a balloon release. Both children and adults are invited to participate.
This event is held annually in October, which has been designated as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Mary Immaculate Hospital’s SHARE support group meets each month at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday at the Mary Immaculate Conference Center. Sister Bernard, director of pastoral care, facilitates the group, which is open to anyone who has experienced perinatal loss. For more information, call 886-6700.
