Total Hip Replacement
"I felt that a lot of information was given prior to my surgery to help elevate any fears. Having all the patients who have had a total knee or total hip together to inspire each in the group therapy session was great, and I think the Unit on 5-North and the staff are terrific!"

Harvey L. Bryant, Jr. Total Hip Replacement Eloise Bryant Total Knee Replacement
Harvey L. Bryant, Jr. and wife Eloise both credit their new, pain-free living to the Maryview Joint Center.
Harvey L. Bryant, Jr. started running when he was in high school and kept running into his seventies. When increasing pain led to limping, his doctor recommended a hip replacement.
A year after this surgery, his wife's knee locked up crossing a street in Costa Rica. "My husband literally had to drag me to the curb," she said. For Eloise Bryant having a knee replacement was a tough decision made easier because she "knew what excellent care my husband received at Maryview."
Both credit their new, pain-free living to the Maryview Joint Center. Harvey says, "I can do almost everything I could before. I don't run, but I walk four to five miles a day, cut grass, lift weights." Eloise reports "being able to walk without pain is really worth it."
Harvey says, "The staff really gives you the encouragement you need. The morning after the surgery, they told me I was going to walk. I said, 'I'm not getting out of this bed.' But I did, and a short time after coming home, I was driving."
Eloise also walked briefly the day after her knee replacement. "The group physical therapy is wonderful. You look at the people in the group and think, 'if he can do it, I can do it.'" Three months after surgery, she's proud to report spending an entire day walking around the San Diego Zoo without pain.
