Recent research conducted by
the American Health Institute, Inc. and the National Institute
of Mental Health; has shown that an optimistic attitude plays
a vital role in the effectiveness of cancer therapy.
Yet, cancer patients frequently find themselves suffering from depression, anxiety, or other emotional issues. Fear of treatment, side effects, lost income, and prolonged illness can compound the emotional distress.
The Bon Secours Cancer Center at DePaul understands that to effectively treat the body we must also minister to the spirit. With this mission in mind, the center has established outpatient counseling services to address the special needs of cancer patients and their families.
The program features:
- Outpatient group and individual therapy offered in the center
- Staffed by a licensed clinical psychologist and two clinical social workers
- Experienced staff that have a special interest in working with people with cancer
Participants will learn how to use relaxation techniques, guided imagery, and affirmative thinking as an adjunct to their cancer therapy.
Insurance:
Medicare, Medicaid and most commercial insurance plans cover fees for these services.
Referrals:
Referrals may be made by the patient, their physician, nurses, family members, or hospital.
