Bon
Secours DePaul Offers New Program For Those
Who Suffer from Chronic Respiratory Problems
The Bon Secours DePaul Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program brings
together a number of health care providers working to help
improve the lives of those with breathing problems. The program
is especially designed for people suffering from asthma, chronic
bronchitis, asthmatic bronchitis, emphysema, COPD, and other
lung problems. It focuses on a multidisciplinary approach,
exercise conditioning, strength training, activities of daily
living, breathing retraining, education and emotional support.
The Bon Secours DePaul Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is
led by a board-certified pulmonary medicine specialist –
Carlos A. Silva, M.D. Dr. Silva and his team combine the best
of modern pulmonology care with the strength of behavioral
medicine, using the fundamental connection of mind, body and
spirit. Most important, they encourages patients to take an
active role in their health care. Thanks to the program, many
patients are able to do more for themselves, breathe better,
increase their strength and endurance, travel, and decrease
their anxiety and/or depression
Most patients will complete the program within ten weeks,
with two to three visits occurring each week. After, we encourage
patients to continue their progress by participating in a
hospital-sponsored maintenance program and following an individualized
home exercise program.
The program does require a physician referral and is usually
covered by most insurance plans. For more information about
the program, please call 889-CARE.
